So, Jacques Paloume - what is it exactly?

Well, it's a festival - a very special festival. Yes, you play hockey, but there's so much more to it than that. Its a decades long story of friendships, traditions, and stories.

Lots of stories.

The origins of the tournament date back to 1949 when then EG 1st XI Captain Harry Gobain renewed contact with wartime friends in Dieppe, and received an invitation to take a team over there at Easter.

The following year, Dieppe were the guests of East Grinstead and brought with them a number of players from Rouen - and sure enough, Rouen hosted their first festival in 1951.

Flottbek attended for the first time in 1954, and made their first trip to EG in 1959. At May Bank Holiday that year, EG and Rouen visited Hamburg for the first time - so two festivals in one year!

From this point forward, the triangular format was set, with the three clubs taking it in turn to host. The main tournament trophy was presented by Flottbek in 1962, and in 1968 was re-christened as The Jacques Paloume Trophy, in memory of our great friend from Rouen.

Now seventy years on from that first meeting, it is a source of immense pride to all that our three clubs continue to maintain the tradition, despite the changed demands of the modern hockey world. It's hard to believe that pour predecessors could ever have imagined what they were starting so many years ago.

When is it?
