The Season So Far...

UPDATED With just a handful of games remaining for the 2018/19 season, we take a look at how things stand across the Senior teams. Click through to find out more..
Ladies Section;

Ladies 1st XI - Investec Women's Hockey League Premier Division.

P17 W11 D1 L5 GD+20

League Position – 3rd

Remaining fixtures - Bowdon (7th) home WON; Clifton (5th) away.

Form - WLWWW

Top Scorers – Sophie Bray 15, Georgie Blackwood 5

Top spot in the table is now out of reach, and whilst there's a mathematical chance of finishing 2nd, 3rd place has to be the target. A 4-point haul from their last 2 games, combined with presently superior goal difference, should secure that, with just 2 points required to guarantee a playoff spot.

Victory over Bowdon secured a 3rd place finish; EG will face the still to be determined 2nd place team in the play-off semi final on Saturday 13th April (pb 1745)

Ladies 2nd XI - South Ladies League Division 2.

P19 W9 D6 L4 GD+14

League Position – 4th

Remaining fixtures – Epsom (7th) away LOST; Guildford (top) home.

Form – LWDDL

Top Scorers – Autumn Bowden 14, Steph Blackwell 7

Their current 3rd place is as high as they can finish, and with 4th playing 5th next week, a victory over Epsom would be a big step towards cementing that.

Ladies 3rd XI - Sussex Ladies League Premier Division.

P21 W10 D4 L7 GD+7

League Position – 5th

Form - WLDWL

Remaining fixtures – Middleton (10th) away WON; Brighton & Hove 2 (2nd) home.

Top Scorers – Lottie Gregory-Young 9, Lily Florida-James 5

Firmly in mid-table, the 3's have been in either 5th or 6th place going all the way back to the 7th week of the season, and seem likely to finish there, although 4th remains a possibility.

Barring a last weekend goal difference miracle (in either direction), the 3's will finish the season in 5th.

Ladies 4th XI - Sussex Ladies League Division 2

P19 W4 D3 L12 GD-26

League Position – 10th

Form - WLWLL

Remaining fixtures – Crowborough (11th) home WON; Eastbourne 3(6th) away, Hailsham (9th) home

Top Scorers – Jemima Caldwell 8, Hannah Portman 5

Crucial relegation showdown this weekend as the 4's take on Crowborough at Saint Hill, whom they lead just on goal difference.

And that lead is extended to 3 points with 2 games remaining.

Ladies Bluebirds - Sussex Girls Development League.

P21 W8 D4 L9 GD 0

League Position – 7th

Form - LLLLL

Remaining fixtures – Eastbourne Owlets (3rd) home WON, Mid Sussex (7th) away

Top Scorer – Mae Sandman 6

They've had a tough recent run, but overall an even season, and they're set to finish either 6th or 7th

2. Autumn Bowden, 14

3. Jemima Caldwell, 10

9.= Fynn Jones, Charlie Firmin, Ben Cleaver, Simon Faulkner, 11

Men'sSection;

Men's 1st XI - Men's Hockey League Premier Division.

P17 W7 D3 L7 GD-2

League Position – 4th

Remaining fixtures – Hampstead & Westminster (2nd) away LOST; Exeter (9th) home.

Form - LLDWL

Top Scorer – Simon Faulkner 11, Liam Ansell 5

3rd place is still attainable, but with just 5 points separating 5th from 8th, the focus is on securing 4th – 2 wins needed!

1 win needed! And then a helpful result elsewhere.

EG sit in 4th heading into the last round of games, but only on goals scored from Holcombe, then goal difference back to Reading in 6th - who face each other Sunday, so it's all to play for.

Men's 2nd XI - Higgins London Hockey League Division 1.

P18 W13 D1 L5 GD+27

League Position – 1st

Remaining fixtures – Old Loughtonians (3rd) away WON; Indian Gymkhana (10th) home.

Form - WWWLW

Top Scorers – Keith Turner 22, Andy Piper, 14

Taking maximum points in last weekends double header saw the 2's jump from 5th to 1st in the table, meaning a win this week could potentially secure the title.

Congratulations meanwhile to Andy Piper, whose recent goal against Spencer was his 150th for the club.

Men's 3rd XI - Sussex Open League Division 2.

P22 W11 D2 L9 GD+25

League Position – 4th

Remaining fixtures – Crawley (9th) away LOST

Form - LWLLD

Top Scorers – Hamish Cunningham 12, Fynn Jones 8

Some rocky recent results has seen the 3's slip to 4th after holding down 2nd for most of the season, but a win in their final game on Saturday, combined with a loss for Eastbourne, who travel to leaders Lewes, could potentially see them back up to 3rd which would be sufficient to earn promotion back to Division 1 at the first attempt.

With 69 goals on the season so far, they're tied with Lewes for division top scorers - final tally 71, good for 2nd.

Defeat last week ends the 3's season on a low note, but overall it's been a good campaign from an inexperienced, and oft-changed squad. They'll likely fall to 5th to finish, as the two teams immediately below them can both pass, and face each other this weekend.

Men's 4th XI - Sussex Open League Division 4.

P21 W18 D2 L1 GD+115

League Position – 1st

Remaining fixtures – Lewes (3rd) away

Form - WDWWW

Top Scorers – Jack Huntington 31, Hamish Cunningham 16

The 4's have dropped points in just 3 games all season, but with a pair of draws against second place St Francis they're still only ahead on by 3 points, having played one more game – although having scored a massive 133 goals (that's an average of over 6 per game), they do boast a significant goal difference advantage.

Having lost the opening game of the season, they're undefeated now in 20 games.

All to play for on the 30th when they close the season away at old friends Lewes - and with St Francis having won their game in hand it's all square on points ahead of the season finale.

Men's Vets - Higgins London League Veterans Division 1.

P16 W14 D1 L1 GD+40

League Position – 2nd

Remaining fixtures – Epsom (9th) home WON, Tulse Hill (8th) home and away

Form - WWWLW

Top Scorers – Mikey Holland 16, Julian Mogg 7, Phil Coote 6

Sitting just 1 point back of leaders Hampstead & Westminster, with 2 games in hand, the Vets are in an excellent position to retain their league title - and with Hampstead having now played their final game, victory this week over THD would seal the title

Men's Saints – Higgins London League Veteran Division 2.

P18 W7 D4 L7 GD-8

League Position – 5th

Remaining fixtures – London Wayfarers (8th) away DRAWN, Maidenhead (6th) away DRAWN

Form - DDWLWL

Top Scorer – David Glenister 7

It's been a somewhat frustrating season for the Saints, with 6 of their logged 16 games being awarded as walkovers. They're comfortably mid table, with an outside chance of climbing to 4th.

With their last games in the books, the Saints look set to finish 5th.

Men's Badgers - Sussex Boys Development League.

P24 W19 D2 L3 GD+53 (note - scores capped)

League Position – 2nd

Remaining fixtures – Brighton (4th) away LOST, Worthing (7th) home

Form - LDLWW

Top Scorers – Tommy Sheeran 17, Charley Tucknott 12, Charlie Firmin 11

Great season for a young Badgers side, they hit the top 2 in the third week and have remained there ever since, leading the way for several weeks before falling back slightly. They're 2 points behind leaders St Francis with 2 to play, but with the rival side having an arguably easier run in, it seems top spot may be just out of reach.

First place has now gone, but a point against Worthing will secure 2nd.

Congratulations Alex Malzer
