On the 21st of October the Men's 1st XI will play hosts to Canterbury in their third home game of the Men's Hockey League Premier Division.
In this fixture last year East Grinstead won comfortably 4-1 after some great field goals: A reverse stick shot into the goal from Dominic Bowden, a smash into the top corner from Nick Catlin, a first goal in over a year (due to injury) for Chris Griffiths and a cheeky chip from Bowden to complete the win for EG. Highlights of that game can be viewed here: East Grinstead 4-1 Canterbury via Galvanised Hockey.
EGHC Team News
East Grinstead won home and away against Canterbury last year scoring 4 goals on both occasions, they will be looking to continue that great record this season. EG recently beat Canterbury 2-0 in the Tonbridge 9s pre-season tournament with Tijn van Groesen on the scoresheet. He could be the key player against Canterbury with his close control in the D and great passing, creating opportunities for his teammates that the fans will be hoping they can take.
Canterbury Team News
Canterbury will be looking to improve their performance this season after finishing ninth in the league last year but have strengthened in the Summer brining in former players with lots of potential. They have recently not performed well against East Grinstead but will be looking to change that on Saturday night. A key player to look out for will be Canterbury captain Craig Boyne, a proven goal scorer in the league and will cause problems for the EG defence but will have to get past former England & GB international Goalkeeper Paddy Smith in order to get on the scoresheet.
Pushback will be at 6pm. Entrance Fees are £4 for adults and U18s go free. There will be a 10 minute Half-Time break in which kids are encouraged to use the pitch to practice and shoot at goal. The supporters are encouraged to ask their favourite players for their autographs after the match as they are leaving the pitch. We would like to wish all supporters a warm welcome at Saint Hill and hope you enjoy the match!
