East Grinstead Hockey Club vs Holcombe Men Date to be confirmed due to clash with EGHC Men European Indoor Commitments In this fixture last year East Grinstead won 4-1 thanks to goals from Ashley Jackson, Martin Scanlon and Simon Faulkner, all of which were well worked penalty corner goals. Highlights of that game can be viewed here: East Grinstead 4-1 Holcombe via Galvanised Hockey.
There are plenty of new faces hoping to make a good start to their career in blue and white. Up front, Tijn van Groesen will be looking to build on the two goals he scored last weekend away to Brooklands, and Liam Ansell will be hoping to grab a home debut goal against Holcombe. They will be up against England's No.1 in the form of George Pinner. Having played a year together for Den Bosch in the prestigious Hoofdklasse, the crowd will be looking forward to their chemistry against Holcombe. In midfield providing inch-perfect passes will be Richard Hildreth; having amassed 166 caps for Canada his leadership, knowledge and experience could prove key against Holcombe and the likes of Barry Middleton in midfield. Not letting anyone past them in defence will be Daniel Faulkner, Alistair Clift and Luke Tyne. Dan will be joining his brother (and captain) Simon in defence while Ali will be following in his successful father's foot steps (Robert Clift) by pulling on the blue and white shirt almost thirty years after his father did the same. Luke Tyne has joined us from Australia and is our overseas player for the 2017/18 season.
Holcombe enjoyed a successful campaign last season finishing third in the play-offs and securing a place in the EHL KO16. They have also had a good pre-season winning the Tonbridge 9's Pre-season tournament beating East Grinstead 3-1 in the process. Holcombe will bring international experience to Saint Hill with England & GB players George Pinner, David Ames and Barry Middleton. We would like to welcome Barry back to EG after he previously wore the East Grinstead shirt for a season. Holcombe will provide a tough test for EG and this game will be a good barometer for where each teams are for the 17/18 season.
