Welcome to Saint Hill for our third home game of the 2020/21 season played under the current health restrictions. We urge all players, officials and spectators to continue to observe the appropriate guidance.

After the difficult build-up to the season the squad is now starting to reach the levels of performance needed to ensure we stay on track to be at or near the top of the table at the end of phase 1.

Following our excellent result away two weeks ago at Surbiton with a hard fought 1-0 victory, on Sunday we came up against Hampstead & Westminster one of last season’s top performers. A hard fought game at Lee Valley saw us take an early lead through Ellie Rayer in the fourth minute with Sophie Bray adding the important second goal on forty minutes. The game then swung back much more in favour of the home team who pulled a goal back in the 63rd minute. Although they pressed hard H&W were unable to break our stout defense with much credit going to player of the match goal keeper Laura Myers. Final score being 2-1 in EG’s favour which leaves us top of the table having played one game more than second placed Loughborough Students.

Today we welcome our visitors, University of Birmingham, who have not had the best of starts to the season under new managership.  While we have had many close encounters with the students’ team we hope to build on last week’s performance and maintain our strong position in the league table.

Our thanks go to today’s officials: Umpires Rachel Williamson and Jane Hallett along with Match Official Derek Rutherford and Umpire Assessor Tony Kelleher.
