Saturday 4th November...

A week after securing their first point of the league season, the Men's 2's went one better, claiming all 3 points away at fellow strugglers St Alban's thanks to goals from Rob Cope (2) and Will Arthur. the win lifts them off the foot of the table for the first time this season, leapfrogging their hosts in the process. Another 6 pointer beckons this weekend as Bromley & Beckenham, now behind EG only on goal difference, visit Saint Hill.

Equally momentous, the Mens 3's snapped a 4 game losing streak of their own in picking up their first league win away at Mid Sussex to also move off the foot of the table.

The Ladies 2's stay unbeaten now in 6 league games, and have drawn 3 in a row... The 3's meanwhile picked up valuable points away at bottom club Eastbourne in a very tight league. They sit 10th, but just 6 points behind 2nd.

London League Premier Division; Men's 2's 3-2 St Albans 2's - Rob Cope 2, Will Arthur

Sussex Div 1; Men's 3's 4-1
Mid Sussex 2's - Tamoor Abdullah 2, Lex Wills, Harry Turner

With a revised team shape, the Men's 3's turned out to try to overturn an unlucky losing spell. After a mid-week training session designed by Head Coach Giles Dakin to address concerns made in the previous home game, the team was of the correct mind-set and players all complied with the game plan.

Generally everyone held on to the ball a lot better than in previous weeks and created some great chances by pressing Mid Sussex hard for the first 20 minutes. A couple of goal chances were missed and unfortunately we went 0-1 down when we allowed the Opposition space to attack, leading to a smartly deflected PC opener.

There was a revised spirit in this team selection, and despite having to recover from being a goal down, everyone worked tirelessly together to turn things round. First goal came from a short corner drag-flicked by Tamoor Abdullah high and safely in the top right. A second came after a penalty flick was awarded as a result of Mid Sussex tomfoolery in the D. Again converted by Tamoor (our inspired signing from Horsham), hard into the side netting.

The next EG goal was a bizarre if not brilliant attacking lunge by Lex Wills. Lex appeared to stumble, confusing the opposition, and then taking advantage of the situation to score his first league goal this season.

Harry Turner finished off the goal scoring with an excellent move down the middle, outrunning the slightly older Mid Sussex defence and competently converting from close to the baseline to make the game safe for EG.

East Grinstead Men's 3rd XI take on Penguin 1st XI this Saturday. We will be testing this new shape further and hope to continue our good fortunes.

Sussex Div 3; Men's 4's 3-7 Worthing 4's - Jack Huntington 2, Owen Mordecai
London League Vets Div 1; Vets 3-1 Old Georgians Fire - Mikey Holland, Jason Coleman, Julian Mogg
London League Vets Div 2; Saints 1-5 Crawley Vets - Mark Hunnisett

Sussex Boys Development League; Badgers 3-4
Lewes Lions - George Collingwood 2, Luka Jones

The Badgers team played well against a much bigger side, a lot of whom are county level players. Unfortunately they conceded a goal in the last 10 seconds of the match from a penalty corner (which might be karma for the match they won with 3 seconds to go ad few weeks ago). It could so easily have been a draw… if only...
