East Grinstead selected in the first cohort of England Hockey Talent Centre program

East Grinstead Hockey Club is delighted to share the news that our Junior Section has been selected as one of the first 37 clubs in the country, to go embark on the process of becoming an accredited England Hockey Talent Centre.

Over the next season the club will be working towards securing the accreditation. We believe EGHC Juniors already achieve most elements of the framework, needed for certification and see the process as a great way to validate this and make extra enhancements which will benefit our players.

EGHC's goal is to also become one of the country's first Talent Academy clubs in the next phase, believing that we are one of only a few in the country who can offer a full talent pathway for boys and girls, from a 4-year-old beginner to Premier League champion.

The club is completely behind England Hockey's plans to change the talent pathway for players and are excited to support this journey long into the future. We are excited for the sport and most importantly young players whom we believe this new structure will serve well.

Our Junior Chairperson, Terry Pullin, who himself played hockey for East Grinstead Junior section from the age of 10 to 16, commented on this news:

It warms my heart to see young people enjoying hockey at our club, we aspire to give them a passion for hockey which they can take forward in life and enjoy forever. Whether they wish to use the foundational hockey skills we help them develop for fitness, fun or to take it further in to the world of performance hockey, having this accreditation will allow us to prove that East Grinstead Hockey Club is a great place to start of their life-long enjoyment of the sport.

Wesley Jackson, our Director of Hockey, East Grinstead Junior to National Hockey player and school hockey teacher at Whitgift who will be leading the coaching elements of the accreditation commented:

It's a great opportunity to be a part of the first cohort of 37 clubs and allows us to work with England Hockey to fine tune the pathway and our own coach development. It's a fantastic opportunity for East Grinstead to provide the best coaching possible and ensure all our juniors, from beginners to performance are developing and enjoying the game in an excellent environment. We have done some amazing things in the past and we want to ensure that legacy is continued with our juniors. We have fantastic coaches, from our volunteers through to our level 4 performance 1st XI coaches, all helping to develop a fantastic coaching network within the club.
