Welcome from the New Chairman

Hello!

I would like to start by thanking the outgoing Committee for all their hard work running the club last year and wish them a peaceful and healthy year ahead.

I am delighted to introduce myself as the incoming Chairman of East Grinstead Hockey Club. Whilst new to this role I am not new to the club and you may recognise me from my time as Junior Chair 2010-2015, as a hockey parent, coach and player. I can also be spotted frequenting the bbq and pitchside bar at our 1st XI home matches - if you haven't taken the family to a first team game I can thoroughly recommend you do!

I'm really excited to be building a new and enthusiastic team to bring our club forward and we have ambitious plans for the short, medium and long term. We want the club to thrive and to be a place where our members feel welcome to watch and play lots of excellent hockey, whilst building a family club where we can all socialise.

We want our members to feel that the club belongs to them, from the first team captains to the 6 year old picking up their first stick and the parent trying to stay warm on the sideline. For the club to be the best it can be we need your feedback and help. I will be working closely with all areas of the club and would welcome any ideas, suggestions or comments that you may have. We are also looking for volunteers as the club cannot function without the help of its members. If you have a skill to offer or an enthusiasm to give please get in touch at This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. We really would love to hear from you.

NEW EGHC M1 Head Coach

East Grinstead Hockey Club are pleased to announce Tim Deakin as the new Head Coach of the Men's 1st XI for the 2020/21 season

Tim has proved his playing career at both Junior International level and the Premier League. He moved to East Grinstead HC in 2013 as a player and was a stalwart at the back with his aggressive marking and defensive ability.

Tim progressed as a coach in 2017 where he lead Oxted to winning the National League in his first attempt.  He then assisted for Division 1 side Teddington. He is currently Director of Sport at City of London Freemen's School and comes with a wealth of knowledge, motivation, and professionalism.

Men's Club Captain Wes Jackson says "We feel Tim is now ready to take the step to the Premier League and hugely positive he is the right person to drive this young and ambitious team to make a statement once again"

"We have an extremely talented side and are building the right culture we have possessed over the past 15 years at the top. We are driving forwards with a new management team in place and we will be providing the best environment possible for our playing group and coaching team, during this next phase for the club"

Tim Deakin said "I am really excited by the opportunity to come back to East Grinstead. I had a great time as a player at the club and can't wait to take on this new role. It is a club with a fantastic history and I want to help in it's ambition to get back among the top clubs in the country".

The club would like to thank former England/GB International and current Head Coach, Glenn Kirkham for his 10 years as a player and 3 years as Head Coach. After travelling from Cambridge and Chelmsford on a weekly basis, the plan was always for him to hand over in 2020. From all of us at EGHC, we wish Glenn and his family all the best for the future.
