Last weekend the Ladies 1st team secured an important opening day away win vs Clifton. Finishing 2:1 up in what was a tough match, the girls went into yesterday's game at home hosting Beeston, themselves a much changed side since last season.
Beeston started the game in an attacking posture with a number of efforts on our goal. Making her home debut, 'keeper Laura Myers was busy in the first quarter alongside her defensive colleagues and together they kept the ball out of the net. The second quarter however was all about EG's attacking play with two goals inside the 20th minute coming from Tess Howard and Sophie Bray, followed by EG's third and final goal on the 27th minute, again from Bray. Tess' opening goal was pleasing in coming from a corner while Bray's two goals were both from open play.
Although the match finished with that 3:0 scoreline, there was plenty more entertaining hockey to follow with attacking play by EG down both flanks, and some near-misses that could have doubled the scoreline. It wasn't all one-way traffic though and the defence were tested by Beeston, particularly in the fourth quarter as they pushed hard to get something from the game.
Finishing the match 3:0 means the EG girls have given themselves a solid foundation at the start of the season. Their next match will be on Saturday October 3d at 3pm at home at East Grinstead.
