East Grinstead Hockey Club is excited to announce its Women's 2s Coaching team for the 2026/27 season and beyond.
Mark Robinson will take over as Head Coach as the team embarks on its first season in the National League Conference East.
"I am delighted to be returning to East Grinstead, a club that very much set me on the coaching journey I am currently on. Back then, the opportunity to watch and learn from coaches such as Karl Stagno and Bram van Asselt very much opened my eyes to what was required to coach at the higher levels of the game.
Over the intervening decade, I have had the good fortune to be involved in Premier League programmes, sample the EHL and EuroHockey Indoor Club Cup, and experience a National Age Group Programme with Wales. The coaching and analysis roles I have taken on have afforded me different perspectives of the game and challenged me to evolve along the way. The opportunity to benefit from the mentoring and guidance from the likes of Mark Bateman and Cheryl Campling, has also been an important part of the journey and something I would encourage all coaches to seek out as part of their own development pathway.
Having coached at clubs across the South East and London, and not forgetting my beloved Wales, I have come full circle and arrived back at a club that has very much moved with the times. The success that the club achieved last season is already well documented; coming in at the backend of the season allowed me to witness first-hand the level of dedication, organisation and skill put in by so many people - players, coaches, managers and volunteers - across the club that helped make last season the amazing reality that it turned out to be.
As the club embarks upon a summer-long programme of hockey, something I am very much looking forward to supporting, I have already been blown away by the level of talent the club has both produced and is attracting. The 2025/26 season might be a hard one to beat but I am looking forward to the challenge of working with a talented group of players and building upon what has been achieved over the last two seasons in particular."
Mark will be supported in his role by Mike Lewis as Assistant Coach.
Mike has been at the club for over 20 years, bringing a wealth of experience and will assist with the player pathway. He has been involved in the EG Men's Performance set up for over 10 years, and took on the club's Junior Lead role last summer which saw a surge in junior success last season - he understands the culture throughout the club. Mike's appointment shows the clubs commitment to our junior player pathway which is going from strength to strength. He will combine the role with the Junior Lead position.
