EG Men welcomed Brooklands to Saint Hill today following their lengthy journey from Manchester. Getting off to a quiet start, the game became progressively more exciting as each quarter passed.
Quarter one saw the scores finish 0:0, but EG broke the deadlock in the second quarter with a goal from Daniel Faulkner from a corner in the 21st minute. Although EG pushed for a second, it just wouldn't come and the home side went in just one goal ahead at half time.
The first few minutes of the second half continued fairly even with both sides pushing for their goal, but it was Brooklands in the 46th and 51st minutes that got in front, while EG went a player down for a few minutes thanks to a green card.
Even though EG were down by a goal, there were signs of rapid attacking play from Samad Suleman, Luke Emmett and Louis Gittens as well as some twisting and turning from Gurmukh Bhamra putting Brooklands' defence under pressure.
Pushing harder and harder for the equaliser in the final quarter, EG continued to put Brooklands under pressure, leading to three green cards for the visitors in quick succession.
The equaliser did come, again from Daniel Faulkner and again from a corner, on the 64th minute mark, but EG were not satisfied and drove hard for the winner.
Three incisive attacks in the last 4 minutes ensued. An excellent pass from Joey Naughalty reached Luke Emmett who just couldn't quite get past Brookland's 'keeper... Louis Gittens drifted past several Brooklands players before being brought down, and finally, Joey Naughalty found himself on the top right of the "D"; making the effort to square for a team mate to score he forced an excellent save from the diving 'keeper.
The game finished 2:2; a spectacle for those who braved the rain and cold.
